Financial Accountant vacancy in Dubai

An experienced financial accountant to be based in the UAE to support our growing commodities business based in London/UAE and reporting directly to the Group Head of Accounting and Consolidation based in London. The financial accountant will work closely in a closely-knit team and provide management accounting, statutory accounting and tax support.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the Group Head of Accounting and Consolidation in establishing robust controls and processes. Keeping and maintaining Chart of accounts and data integrity.
Working closely with various trading and operations teams, develop understanding of trading strategies, product flows and P&L drivers.
Coordinate with various control functions in evaluating financial data. Maintain a feedback loop for system improvements and enhancements between Trading and Accounting systems.
Adhere to strict reporting deadlines, perform monthly close process, including but not limited to recording transactional, payroll and overhead data in the accounting system and perform reconciliations with Trading system, as necessary.
Develop a deeper understanding of financial results for the month/quarter and provide management commentaries for MD&A.
Preparation and presentation of entity financial results, including board packs. Develop confidence to conduct board meetings and answer questions from all stakeholders.
Work closely with auditors and tax consultants to prepare, verify and submit Statutory, Tax and Financials returns. Support external annual audits under UAE GAAP and IFRS.
Support with Group consolidation & other group initiatives.
Beyond the day-to-day control of the accounting function and systems, this role encompass the following responsibilities:
Point of contact for external auditors;
Budgeting and planning, including cost control;
Debtors and receivables control, position analysis;
Able to maintain a strong internal control environment, identify control weakness and put remediation steps;
Respond to ad hoc requests and assist in special projects for the Group Head of Accounting and Consolidation such as Group Financial reporting and adoption of Full IFRS, Fair value measurement, UAE Tax & VAT returns, etc.;
Proactively gain understanding of new accounting standards and their potential impact.


Qualifications and Experience:

3-5 years’ post qualification experience in accounting and/or controlling roles;
Working knowledge of IFRS;
Professional accounting accreditation (fully qualified), MBA, or qualified by experience;
Prior physical commodities trading exposure and asset management will be an added advantage;
Fluent in English and Arabic;
Confident and self-motivated person, not afraid of a very ‘hands-on’ approach and able to operate autonomously;
Full proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
